ORGANIC FARMING VERSES CONVENTIONAL FARMING.

In today’s society, a lot of the product that we eat we don’t know how they are produce.

We live in a world where we are always on the go, either to our jobs where we’re trying

to meet some deadline or fulfilling some other commitments. We don’t stop to think and

analyze where the food that we put in our body come from. Most of the time we are

eating what are given to us by big cooperation who produces food on farms in ways that

are inhumane and are destroying our bodies and environment just to make a profit.

The two most common types of farming are organic and conventional farming. Organic

farming produce more healthy products than conventional farming.

Most organic foods are mostly produce by small family farmers who spend long

laborious hours caring for their farm in order to produce healthy food. for example, the

Salatin Family. IN 1961, William and Lucille Salatin purchase the most worn-out,

eroded, abused farm in the area near Staunton. Using nature as a pattern, they and their

children began the healing and innovation that now supports three generations .Today the

farm arguably represents America’s premier non-industrial food production oasis. The

Salatins planted trees, built huge compost piles, dug ponds, moved cows daily with

portable electric fencing, and invented portable sheltering systems to produce all their

animals on perennial prairie polycultures.

Families like the Saltatins are people we should thank for making organic farming healthy

for us today. In order for organic farm to produce healthy food they must fellow strict

gidelines. According to the organic consumer association, organic farmers are not

allowed to used “ antibiotics, synthetic pesticides herbicides, fertilizers, genetically

modified seeds or irradiated” .Organic food should be grown as naturally as possible, thus

making it healthy for us to consumed. According to the NY Times a pediatrician Dr .

Alan Danville wanted to see how healthy organic farm food was. He eat only organic for

three years. He choose years because it’s the time it took to be certified organic by the

D.O.A. Three years later, he says “he has more energy and wakes up earlier”. As a

pediatrician regularly expose to sick children, he was accustomed to several illnesses a

year. Now , he says, he is rarely ill. His urine is a brighter yellow, a sign that he is

ingesting more vitamins and nutrients. In order to be certified organic, farmers have to

keep their farm free ofprohibited substances for at least three years prior to harvest. Crops

grown on land in transition to organic during the first three years after switching from

conventional farming cannot be labeled as organic. Organic labeling laws make much

more easier to recognize organic food that comes from organic farms. The USDA said in

order recognize organic product look for the organic seal on raw, fresh products and

processed products that contain organic agricultural ingredients. Or it may appear on a

sign above an organic produce displayed .The seal may be printed in green and brown as

shown, in black and white outline on a transparent background. The organic fever is

spreading even the president and his wife are leading by example and planting a garden.

While the organic garden will provide food for the first family’s meals and formal

diners, its most important role, Mrs. Obama said, will be to educate children about

healthful, locally grown fruit and vegetables at a time when obesity and diabetes have

become a national concern.(nytimes).It’s time we all start living healthy life for

generations to come
Conventional farming describes any farming not dedicated to alternative methods.

Fundamentally, it is the kind of farming which dominated the 20th century and which

accounts for most farming today. In conventional farming, chemical plant protectants,

chemical fertilizers and intensive mass animal farming are common. Thousands of

animals are raise together in crowed conditions. Chicken stand in cages or indoor in large

cage packed so tightly together that each chicken gets a space about the size of a sheet of

paper .

Organic farming is better because it is grown without antibiotics, synthetic pesticides,

herbicides, fertilizers, genetically modified seeds, irradiation, or fertilizer derived from

sewage sludge. According to the organic consumer association the average, on the

average, organic food's shelf price is only 20% higher han chemical food, this makes it

actually cheaper, gram for gram, than chemical food,

even ignoring the astronomical hidden costs (damage to health, climate, environment, and

government subsidies) of industrial food production.

Conventional farmers claim that organic food prices are expensive, this is untrue, if you

add the price for pesticide, coast for cleaning up the environment, and coast of health

issue, subsidies that the government provide to conventional farmers, conventional

farming is way more expensive.

What I learned about research

Before i joined this class i didn't know much about research. I remember i used to go websites, and down the most basic dot com information and used to think it was all good. Since joining this class i realise that research isn't that simple. I learned that research takes a lot of time. The sources of your research must be reliable in order to make your paper credible. Research help me get my paper organize in away so who ever read it can understand. Research helped me to look at topic from different directions. The most important thing i learned from doing research is work cited.

Revision Letter

Dear school chancellor,
How are you. I hope you're doing fine. The reason I'm writing you this letter is because over the last decade the quality of the food in our city schools has diminish, moreover educating our kids about what they eat is none existence. I would like to share with you some ways to improve the food and food education in our schools. The first way to improve the food and food education in our school is to, make it mandatory that all children attend a food education class. Secondly, create a garden and finally we as parents are demanding you put label on unhealthy food . Our children are our future and I'm concern that because of a lack of knowledge of our food system our school children will grow up eating whatever they are given to them thus making them assessable to all kind of disease. We as parents want to make sure that our children live an healthy live so that their future will be secure.

In many schools nowadays you can find a vending medicine that sells soda, snack or candy that is bad for our children. Sometimes even the food that the school cafeteria Serve is way too high collieries and sugar. According to the NEW ENGLAND JOURNAL OF MEDICINE the reason why most children are hyperactive today compare to a decade ago is because of the sugary substance in most food products.
In order to make our children understand what they're eating we must start educating them at an early age, that why we should make it mandatory that all children in elementary school attend a nutrition class. In this class they should be thought about the good and bad about nutrition. They should be thought that food like soda, candy, burgers etc are bad for them because food like these doesn't put nutrients or vitamins in their body these food just taste good, instead it causes them to develop sickness like diabetes, stroke, high cholesterol, atherosclerosis, etc. While food like vegetable salad, yogurt, crackers and beverages like low fat milk, smoothies, and water give them more vitamin and nutrition which intern energizes them and make their body fight diseases. If children learn about nutrition from an early age it will help them to make good decision about what to eat.

Too often in our country we sit back and make excuses about how we don't have any control about the food we are eating or we don't have any space to plant a garden. In many developing countries school children are thought how to grow a garden on the school ground at an early age. They learn how deep in the earth a plant should go or how much water should be pour on the plants, they also learn the importance of manure and sunlight on plants. By these children having there own garden they learn at an early age the importance of what they eat. If children are thought how to garden in this country, they can use the plants from the garden to make food in the cafeteria. By them having a better understanding about the process of growing food and knowing where the food come from will help them and others live an healthier lifestyle.

In today society children are easily influence by what they see and here as a parent i try to limit the things i know that can influence my children but i can't be with them every where.
As parent i want my children to live an healthy and productive life so i make sure they eat healthy food at home. At school i know they don't eat healthy and it's very frustrating. Research has shown that children who eats healthy food at home are willing to eat unhealthy food when they are away from their parents. This is why we as parents are demanding that you put label on unhealthy food. By labeling food children will be able to distinguish what’s bad for their health. We as parents can only do so much in making sure our kids live an healthy and productive life.

I would like to thank you for this opportunity to express my opinion. I hope that you agree with me that in order improve the food and food education for our kids we must start by mandating they attend a food education class, creating a garden and by demanding that unhealthy food be label, after all doesn't our kids deserve a healthy lifestyle?
Yours Sincerely
Marvis Usher.

SUPER SIZE ME

First of all I have to give credit to Morgon Spurlock, for putting his body through this experiment, knowing all the danger to his health, just to show us what eating fast food can do to our body.
An observation I made during the the movie is how much lager the cups and meals have become, compare to when fast food was at it's inception. It all come down to marketing and money. Food company spend a lot of time thinking of way of get us to spend our money. They know that naturally people associate big with much more, thus making the cups and meals bigger so people will spend more money.

As much as fast food is tasty and cheap it's not good for our health. After a month of eating fast food Mr Spurlock cholesterol was ten folds what he started with, his bloodpressure , weight etc all want way up.The doctors even advise him to stop before he finish the movie, because they fared he died. Most interestingly fast food doesn't have much nutritional value, according to the movie, a meal at a fast food only account for four nutritional value, moreover the ingredients in soda and meals are made to get us addicted. For example, in the movie after nine days fast food mr Spurlock began to feel bad when he's not eating fast food, and as soon as he eats he felt much better.

The kids are the one's who is suffering from all this unhealthy eating. Imaging if their parents or siblings are sick because of unhealthy eating?Even if you teach you kids not to drink or eat fast food because of all the consequences ,they are too many distractors, for example, peer pressure, some fast food have play places and clowns, advertisement. The average child sees about ten thousand advertisement. Schools doesn't provide cook food anymore, moreover there is no physical education so kids don't exercises. The sad part about this is there a connection between unhealthy food, exercise and behaviour. According to the movie, schools that serve healthy food and provide there students with physical education have better behaviour.

The government who's job is to make sure that it's citizen are protected isn't doing anything about about it because they are getting money from lobbyist. Lobbyist spend millions of dollars lobbing for fast food co operations to pass laws banning people from suing fast food co operations. It's time we start to take our health and food in our own hands .
